Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>TANZANIA marked a special day in national cohesion on Friday, as government leaders and those of the opposition parties gathered in Zanzibar where President Samia Suluhu Hassan launched the Maalim Seif Foundation.<\/p>\n

Maalim Seif has been an opposition leader and Zanzibar presidential aspirant for several occasions, but he was always ready for unity and reconciliation, something that President Samia talked of and called upon the Tanzanians to treasure.<\/p>\n

The late Maalim Seif was once a cadre and government leader under Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), but later left and joined the Civic United Front (CUF) and then ACT Wazalendo before being appointed to become the First Vice President of Zanzibar, under President Hussein Ali Mwinyi.<\/p>\n

President Samia put it clear that Maalim Seif left for all Tanzanians unity and solidarity, saying that it was a task left for all, challenging politicians in the country to emulate.<\/p>\n

As Tanzania advances into her 60 years of independence, it is pertinent that all citizens strive to maintain peace, unity by building bridges instead of separation walls or barriers. .<\/p>\n

The politicians of all political parties should from now refrain from trying to destabilise the government and instead they should join hands in concerted efforts to build the country, its economy and different sectors, specifically education, health and infrastructure. They should always embrace dialogue politics.<\/p>\n

They should heed calls by different leaders, such as the office of the Registrar of Political Parties that has been calling for sessions involving political leaders in order to maintain peace and cultivate good political environment.<\/p>\n

The record set by President Samia for attending the occasion and what she spoke shows political maturity, love and her objective of carrying the country forward in peace, unity and enhance national development as the country has attained middle income status. It is important to maintain and enhance national cohesion.<\/p>\n

This is a process and an outcome of instilling and enabling all citizens in the country to have a sense as well as a feeling that they are members of the same country, engaged in a common enterprise and facing shared challenges.<\/p>\n

National cohesion goes beyond peace-keeping and conflict management and it is strongest when everyone in the country has the opportunity, the resources and the motivation to participate in society as fully as they wish and on an equal basis with others.<\/p>\n

The example shown by President Samia has to be emulated by opposition parties\u2019 leaders. They should refrain from violence and fights; come together for dialogue and let the citizens decide who leads them through the ballot box when time comes.<\/p>\n
