{"id":40508,"date":"2021-11-09T15:30:35","date_gmt":"2021-11-09T15:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/?p=40508"},"modified":"2021-11-09T14:40:47","modified_gmt":"2021-11-09T14:40:47","slug":"tanesco-tech-mahindra-signs-30m-pact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/tanesco-tech-mahindra-signs-30m-pact","title":{"rendered":"Tanesco, Tech Mahindra signs $30M pact"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>Tanzania state-owned utility, Tanesco has inked a 30 million US dollar (about 69.1bn\/-) deal with an Indian multinational technology company-Tech Mahindra to help automate its overall economics and service delivery.<\/p>\n<p>Tanesco\u2019s Managing director, Maharage Chande told a press conference in Dodoma on Tuesday that Tech Mahindra won a tender to help design an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) that will help Tanesco to quickly identify any issues and resolve them promptly thereby ensuring top class customer and staff support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis system will help improve efficiency while streamlining processes and provide real time visibility,\u201d Chande said shortly before signing the 30 months contract with the tech company. Tech Mahindra, a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group has won and implemented similar projects in Ethiopia and Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Tanesco said the new system would also cut down day-to-day costs incurred while discharging its duties. \u201cWe have been spending a lot of energy to improve service delivery. The new system is part of the company\u2019s strategy to revolutionize service provision,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will increase our capacity to service both our customers and the staff,\u201d he added. Tanesco is the national largest power distributing company. The country\u2019s landscape poses a serious challenge in detecting problems and subsequently providing solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Citing shortage of electricity metre, Chande said the new system will help Tanesco take stock of inventories and quickly detect areas with either shortage or surplus and plan for appropriate adjustments.<\/p>\n<p>Prasad Kotikela, Executive Head for Africa &amp; SA at Tech Mahindra said the company plans to employ helicopter and drone technology to map the entire country where Tanesco provides service.<\/p>\n<p>He detailed that the system, which is expected to partly start operating after 12 months, will help increase efficiency and accountability of Tanescos\u2019 billing and reporting capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed and be assured that our team understands the industry,\u201d he said, expressing that the firm believes it will help Tanesco run better. Tech Mahindra projects in both Ethiopia and Ghana have been successful.
