Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>TAIFA Stars\u2019 campaign to play in 2022 Qatar World Cup finals was dealt a big blow following a painful 3-0 loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The humiliating loss at home has demoted Taifa Stars to the third position, but all depends on the results of the match between Benin and Madagascar who played later in Cotonou.<\/p>\n

The away victory temporarily sky-rocketed DR Congo to the group J top, but that could depend on the results stamped in Cotonou. Goals from Gael Kakuta early in the 6th minute and Idumba Fasika in the 66th minute were spiced up by Ben Malango strike in the 85th to silence millions of Tanzanians who longed to see Taifa Stars play in the World Cup finals.<\/p>\n

It was the second home loss to Taifa Stars after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Benin, when FC Brest striker Steve Mounie scored the winner for the Squirrels in the 72nd minute.<\/p>\n

So far away venues have been good to Stars as four of their seven points were reaped in Lubumbashi and Cotonou. Their maximum points came in their 3-2 win over Madagascar at Benjamin Mkapa stadium in Dar es Salaam.<\/p>\n

Hopes for Stars to advance to the two-legged play off remain in their last group J matches against Madagascar and DR Congo vs Benin in Lubumbashi this Sunday.<\/p>\n

The Kim Poulsen side just needed a win to intensify their hopes for the next stage but they conceded a goal in six minutes. It was Gael Kakuta who brilliantly connected Mbokani\u2019s pass after intercepting a sluggish pass from Taifa Stars\u2019 defender Dickson Job. It looked like Taifa Stars would get an equaliser, but Mbwana Samatta\u2019s free kick in 12th minute went wide.<\/p>\n

The free kick was awarded to Taifa Stars after midfield maestro Feisal Salum was fouled by DRC players.<\/p>\n

In the 16th minute, Wydad Casablanca striker, Simon Msuva missed a golden chance after he was set through by Dennis Kibu, but again his right foot kick went off target. In the 23rd minute, Kibu and Simon Msuva missed a nice cross from Mohamed Hussein and in the 26th minute, skipper Mbwana Samatta shot went a few inches wide.<\/p>\n

DRC who played a cautious game were occasionally threatening, depending much on the counter attacks marshalled by Mbokani and Gael Kakuta.<\/p>\n

Dr Congo who were leading 1-0 until the end of the first half, managed to see the back of Taifa Stars net in the 66th minute through Idumba Fasika. The goal completely put Stars out before Ben Malango finished off Stars with the third goal in the 85th minute.<\/p>\n
