Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>A TOTAL of 6,168 child abuse incidents have been recorded in various police stations countrywide between January and September, this year the Parliament was told on Friday.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Khamis Hamza Chilo said that of the reported cases, 5,287 involved girls and the remaining 881 were for boys.<\/p>\n

Outlining the child abuse incidents, the deputy minister mentioned some as defilement, gender based violence, domestic violence and child-marriages. Mr Chilo gave the statistics when responding to a main question posed by Ms Esther Matiku (Special Seats-Chadema), who wanted to know the number of child abuse incidents registered this year and action taken by the government.<\/p>\n

The deputy minister named the number of cases reported as gender based violence (3,524), defilement (637), domestic violence (130), and pregnancies (1,877).<\/p>\n

He said 3,800 cases have been filed of which 2,368 cases are at various stages of proceedings and 88 judgments have been issued.<\/p>\n
