Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>Garden attendants from public and private agriculture training institutes countrywide have been trained on organic gardens management geared towards building their capacity and improving their skills.<\/p>\n

The training was coordinated by Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT) through Curriculum Implementation Support for Training Institutes (CISTI) project under the funding of Led Liechtenstein Development Services in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture.<\/p>\n

According to CISTI project manager, Mr Kashinde Salumu, the training was held at SAT Farmer\u2019s Training Centre in Morogoro.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe objective is to enable them to manage organic gardens and produce experts who are in line with the need of the country,\u201d Mr Salumu said.<\/p>\n

He further said the training is a part of the implementation of the project targeting to integrate several areas such as organic agriculture, gender, environmental management, cooperatives and communication skills that is based on the new training curriculum for agriculture at certificate and diploma levels.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project involves at least 29 agricultural training institutes countrywide and 16 demonstration gardens with screen houses, open field gardens with drip irrigation systems and backyard gardens for practical lessons,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Salumu added that the CISTI involved retooling of 29 agricultural training institutes with basic ICT equipment to integrate e-learning. So far, he said about 5,178 students have participated in practical activities and 2090 farmers have been reached through Farmers\u2019 Open Days.<\/p>\n
