Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>SUMBAWANGA Municipality Council (SMC) in Rukwa has received 3.4bn\/- grant from central government amounting for development and recurrent for September and October.<\/p>\n

The SMC Director, Mr Jacob Mtalitinya, told the ‘Daily News’ over the weekend that was part of recently Covid-19 relief package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and will go for classroom construction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fund will definitely decongest schools while easing students\u2019 burden of walking a long distance daily to and from school,” Mr Mtalitinya said.<\/p>\n

The Director said the municipality has received 900m\/- for construction of 45 classrooms for secondary schools. This will enable all students passed standard seven exams to join form one next January.<\/p>\n

Similarly municipality received 80m\/- for construction of four satellite schools each at 20m\/-.<\/p>\n

He said he would ensure speedy construction of the projects the government wants all child of school going age to be enrolled next academic year.<\/p>\n

He further noted that the implementation of the construction of classrooms have been scheduled for accomplished mid-next month.<\/p>\n

“We want speedy implementation of the projects at a set standard. Thus I warned contractors on implementing shoddy jobs,\u201d Mr Mtalitinya said adding.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe construction work must reflect the value for money the government paid to contractors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Equally, Mr Mtalitinya further disclosed that out of the received grant more than 2.5bn\/- will be spent on construction of classrooms in primary and satellite schools.<\/p>\n

The fund also will be used for finishing the construction of the municipal hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have received a grant of 676.6 m\/- to finalize the construction of the municipal hospital and procurement of medical equipment” Mr Mtalitinya said.<\/p>\n

Already Rukwa has received 6.64bn\/- for the construction of 73 satellite schools at the cost of 1.4bn\/- and 259 classrooms for secondary schools whose construction will cost over 5.1bn\/-<\/p>\n
