Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>MHALO Mining Site in Kwimba District, Mwanza Region which is largely operated by small-scale miners, has so far produced 11.4bn\/- value of gold since its inception in 2018, it has been revealed.<\/p>\n

Mineral Minister Mr Dotto Biteko made the revelation recently during his tour of the district, encouraging the small scale miners to continue exploiting opportunities in the sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is for personal and nation\u2019s benefits. Take this opportunity for your better future as the government continues to make reforms in the mining sector to smoothen your operations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also toured the newly introduced Kiliwi mining site discovered two weeks ago, reminding miners to adhere to safety rules to avoid accidents, including protecting themselves against the fall of debris or landfall.<\/p>\n

Minister Biteko recalled the recent accident at Mhalo mine, whereby a part of the mining site collapsed, affecting a total of 17 people with nine of them missing. The rest were successfully rescued.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, Mr Emmanuel Issack is among the victims of the accident, who is still missing. He directed rescuers to put much more effort to make sure he and the rest are safely rescued.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour life is more important than minerals you search for, this is the reason why we ask the relevant mining authorities to ensure they put in place all safety measures,\u201d stressed the minister.<\/p>\n

During the occasion, Kwimba Constituency Member of Parliament Mr Shanif Mansoour, contributed 5m\/- to support artisanal miners\u2019 operations.<\/p>\n

He said that once empowered, small-scale miners can largely contribute to a country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while improving their livelihood.<\/p>\n

For her part, Kwimba District Commissioner, Ms Johari Samizi, urged the ministry to set up important facilities at the available mining sites in the district, mostly mineral markets, so as to let the miners avoid long travel in search of the markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also call upon collaboration among small scale miners. Everyone has the right to share the available natural resources the country is endowed with,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
