Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>Deaths from abortion complications can be prevented by equipping health care workers at all levels with knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive Post Abortion Care (cPAC).<\/p>\n

This was said on Thursday in Dar es Salaam by health experts during the launch of Comprehensive Post-Abortion Care Guidelines 2020, where they said that abortion, regardless of its cause, may result into death.<\/p>\n

Dr Ntuli Kapologwe, the Director of Health, Social Welfare and Nutrition Services in the President\u2019s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, and who was the guest of honor, said that it is important for the health care system to work with the community to create awareness and to mobilize community professionals to work together for this cause.<\/p>\n

He said in efforts to reduce maternal mortality due to unsafe abortions, political administrative and influential leaders and other community members should be equipped with basic knowledge in reproductive health.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children in Assessment of Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EmONC) services in Tanzania Mainland estimated that abortion related complications contributed to 10 percent of all maternal deaths, which is similar to global estimates,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The cPAC 2020 Guideline was updated by Association of Gynecologists and Obstetricians of Tanzania (AGOTA) and World Health Organization (WHO).<\/p>\n

On her part, AGOTA Honorary Secretary, Dr Muzdalifat Abeid said through various partners, including UMATI, PSI, DKT, Pathfinder, MST, UNFPA, CARE, GIZ, JPHIEGO, BMAF, AGOTA conducted cPAC training and mentorships in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Mbeya, Lake zone, Pwani.<\/p>\n

She said that AGOTA also participated in development of cPAC guideline in 2015 and 2020 and Uterotonic guideline in 2019 and their dissemination.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cPAC 2020 emphasizes on provision of quality services by reinforcing strong integration to family planning services and pain management,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She said that the guideline targets all stakeholders involved in planning, organizing, implementing, providing and monitoring health care services, including health care providers who provide reproductive and adolescent health services in Tanzania.<\/p>\n
