Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE United Kingdom High Commission has donated ICT equipment to the National Bureau of Statistics Offices in both Mainland and Zanzibar to support the Population and Housing Census scheduled for August next year.<\/p>\n

Speaking after receiving the ICT equipment held in Dar es Salaam this week, Chief Statistician Dr Albina Chuwa said the equipment included 28 laptops and (20 desktop out of 40) which will strengthen data collection.<\/p>\n

Dr Chuwa said that to date the census preparations have reached 50 percent, and they still continue raise awareness about the citizens participation in the exercise.<\/p>\n

She further said the next year\u2019s census will be the sixth after the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964 with earlier exercises taking place in 1967,1978,1988,2002, and 2012.<\/p>\n

On her part, Foreign, Commonwealth Development Office, Representative, Ms Kemi Williams commended the good job from the government of Tanzania through NBS as 2022 Population and Housing Census is a foundation for making various decision for people and country’s development.<\/p>\n

She added that, the ICT equipment will help in increasing capacity in collecting data and analysis during the census.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking forward to continuing to partner with the governments of both Mainland and Zanzibar to support the 2022 Population and Housing Census,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

World Bank Senior Economist, Mr Rob Swinkels expressed commitment to continue supporting statistical development in Tanzania and Africa in general. Adding to that statistical development led to good quality in data essential for progress of the nation.<\/p>\n

UNFPA Country representative, Ms Jacqueline Mahon said the organization has been a technical partner of the government of Tanzania in all previous censuses and continue to support the NBS to prepare for and implement the 2022 Census to ensure it is conducted in line with the international standards and that the data generated is customized for national use.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government of Tanzania is taking bold steps to ensure everyone is counted in the 2022 Census, using the geographical Information System (GIS) technologies to demarcate the country into enumeration area for the first time and adopting the combination of traditional and digital data collection, UNFPA has supported the adoption of these new technologies through the procurement of tablets and technical assistance for the use new GIS software in the demarcation of the country,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Ms Mahon added that UNFPA will continue supporting Tanzania to enable the population census to be achieved where everyone is counted.<\/p>\n

2022 Population and Housing Census Commissioner, Ane Makinda has thanked the development partners and international organization for the donation of ICT equipment, commenting that the government\u2019s committed to ensure the 2022 census is conducted successful.<\/p>\n

Because the data available will help to connect Tanzania with other nations in various fields and it is also a matter of development for the country.<\/p>\n
