Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>TANZANIA food exports to Kenya have soured in recent months to 54,000 tonnes recorded in July, this year, thanks to the existing good economic diplomatic relations among the two East Africa Community (EAC) member states.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Hussein Bashe revealed this on Saturday at a discussion conducted virtually which zeroed on the contribution of economic diplomacy and international relations in the development of the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

At the meeting, moderated by University of Dar es Salaam Don, Dr Ezron Makundi, Mr Bashe said after President Samia Suluhu Hassan visited Kenya, food exports increased from 4,372 tonnes in May to 30,930 tonnes in June before hitting 54,000 tonnes in July.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgriculture is business,\u201d Bashe told meeting participants and added that Tanzania is facilitating a trading environment with neighboring countries through economic diplomacy to export agricultural products.<\/p>\n

President Samia visited Kenya May, this year and among issues she and her counterpart President Uhuru Kenyatta discussed was to improve trade relations among the two nations.<\/p>\n

On his part, CRDB Bank Group CEO Abdulmajid Nsekela said the financial sector is an integral part of development of agriculture and he explained how his financial institution was playing a pivotal role in supporting agricultural product dealers to trade in various countries including China, thanks to the economic diplomacy.<\/p>\n

The discussion conducted through zoom brought together politicians, academicians, bankers, diplomats, economists as well as agriculture stakeholders to discuss the matter and address some challenges facing the sector.<\/p>\n
