{"id":41725,"date":"2021-11-25T15:58:15","date_gmt":"2021-11-25T15:58:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/?p=41725"},"modified":"2021-11-25T14:53:33","modified_gmt":"2021-11-25T14:53:33","slug":"pm-issues-directives-for-jobs-creation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/pm-issues-directives-for-jobs-creation","title":{"rendered":"PM issues directives for jobs creation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed ministries and public institutions in both Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar to devise measures that would create jobs for young citizens.<\/p>\n<p>Out of six directives aimed to curb unemployment in the country,he tasked respective ministries to have job creation strategic programs, which would also encourage private stakeholders to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ministries should strengthen cooperation with the private sector to improve trade and investment environment for investors to establish industries,\u201d Mr Majaliwa stated when launching the Integrated Labour Force Survey 2020\/21 here in Zanzibar.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore,he demanded that higher learning institutions should have courses, which prepare young people to grab job opportunities in the market.<\/p>\n<p>Equally, the Premier ordered the finance ministries in both sides of the union to work with the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) to ensure that financial institutions give soft loans to small-scale traders, and district councils and municipalities also to set aside 10 per cent of their budgets as loans to women, youth and people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>That, according to him has to go hand in hand with earmarking land for petty traders and entrepreneurs to conduct their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnemployment is still a challenge although in general perspective, the rate is slightly down from 10.5 percent in 2014 to 9.3 percent this year\u2026 unemployment in Zanzibar has increased from 17.4 percent in 2014 to 19.7 percent this year (2020\/2021), while in mainland it has decreased from 10.3 percent in 2014 to 9.0 percent this year,\u201d Mr Majaliwa further said.<\/p>\n<p>He informed the gathering that despite ongoing efforts to overcome the unemployment challenge, some youth (aged between 15 and 35) were still unemployed, while statistics showed that unemployment among young women is 16.7 percent compared to 8.3 percent for the males.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister said the 2020\/21 integrated labour force survey is a milestone for planning in socio-economic development both Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar, and hence, directed respective ministries and executives from local to central government to ensure that they effectively use the findings while planning.<\/p>\n<p>However, he argued that if the directives are well adhered to unemployment challenge would be resolved.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, Zanzibar\u2019s Second Vice President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan and his Zanzibar counterpart Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi for leading the country in the right direction, adding that the survey will help in improving planning and solving unemployment.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting, Ms Jenista Mhagama- State Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office (Policy, Parliament, coordination, labour, Youth, employment and People with disabilities) said the 2020\/2021 labour force survey was conducted successfully involving the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and Zanzibar Office of Chief Government Statistician (OCGS) which tell existing strong political union.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the World Bank, Mr Rob Swinkels, Senior Economist, World Bank said that the integrated labor market survey 2020\/21 was funded by the European Union through a World Bank managed trust fund, adding, \u201cIt is another product of the government\u2019s strong partnership with us and the EU,\u201d He said the World Bank commits to continue providing support to do further analysis.<\/p>\n<p>International Labour Organization (ILO) Representative in East Africa, Mr Swinkels said: \u201cWe look forward to supporting the developing better policy, and let me also mention that we are working with OCGS and Zanzibar planning Commission (ZPC) on a Poverty Assessment for Zanzibar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event was attended by several ministers and executives from both Zanzibar and mainland, statisticians, students from higher learning institutions, regional commissioners and planners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\">Tanzania<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania.
