Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE government through the Electrical Transmission and Distribution Construction and Maintenance Company (ETDCO) has implemented 74 projects for constructing power transmission infrastructures worth 156bn\/- in the past four years.<\/p>\n

The ETDCO, which is subsidiary company of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO), revealed this as part of achievements attained in the energy sector ahead of celebrations of the country\u2019s 60 years of independence.<\/p>\n

Implementation of those projects has largely contributed to government\u2019s intention to lighten up the entire country and guarantee supply of enough power for the manufacturing sector.<\/p>\n

Also, the company is currently implementing 15 projects worth 151.48bn\/-.<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, ETDCO Acting General Manager, Eng Maclean Mbonile said a number of projects that are being implemented prove that the country has made a huge step in the energy sector for the past 60 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese projects which we have implemented since 2017 and the ongoing ones are the results of the trust the government has on us, in terms of capacity and standards,\u201d he said during a press conference on the achievements that ETDCO has recorded so far.<\/p>\n

Eng Mbonile mentioned some of the projects that were implemented as the construction of the 80 kilometers 132KV transmission line from Mtwara to Lindi region with the latter connected to the national grid.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe projects was fully implemented in 2017 at a cost of 11.4bn\/-,\u201d he said adding that the company also constructed a transmission line of 33KV from Morogoro to Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Project (JNHPP) covering a distance of 54kilometres at a cost of 5.8bn\/-.<\/p>\n

Other projects that were constructed include the 120 kilometers double circuit where a 33KV line was installed from Mahumbika-Ruangwa (Lindi region) at a cost of 8.7bn\/-,<\/p>\n

He said the company also managed to construct the 1.5bn\/- worth 33KV line from Nanyumbu to Tunduru districts of Mtwara and Ruvuma respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also constructed a double circuit 33kv line from Gongo la Mboto to the JNHPP site covering a distance of 254km. It was constructed between 2019 and February 2021 at a cost of 17.8bn\/-,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

The ETDCO top official also mentioned the construction of 51km of a double circuit line of 33KV to Mtumba government city and Chamwino State house in Dodoma as among the achievements that the company has recorded.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was constructed at a cost of 3.4bn\/-, another key project that was implemented was electrifying the government owned Stamigold mine in Biharamuro districts of Kagera region from Geita,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Speaking of the ongoing projects, Eng Mbonile said the company is currently implementing electrification projects under Rural Energy Agency in 194 villages of Mbeya and Katavi region at a cost of 64.5bn\/-.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also been awarded a tender to construct a 132KV transition line that will connect Katavi and Kigoma regions with a national grid from Tabora,\u201d noted further.<\/p>\n
