Ms Mwalimu said all the successful pupils have been allocated spaces in respective schools in a single intake in comparison to the previous years, when they had to secure places in phases as dictated by classrooms’ shortages.

In the course, she credited President Samia Suluhu Hassan for prior preparations to have the needed infrastructures put in place first; taking into account that free education policy has attracted big a number of pupils in primary schools.

The Minister said President Samia endorsed 240bn/- for the construction of 12,000 classrooms in secondary schools countrywide, prior to which there were infrastructures to house only 430,604 Form One students .

“With the construction of classrooms, we have created additional 600,000 chances for Form One in the 2022 academic year, thus having the capacity to accommodate 1,030,604 students in total, this means there are extra 122,802 places,” she said.

The students have been allocated to seven special schools, technical schools, boarding schools and day schools countrywide.

However, she said, students from cities, municipalities and townships will not be sent to boarding schools with an exception of those with disabilities and those from disadvantaged families.

Ms Mwalimu said 4,188 pupils have been selected to join boarding schools, which is 0.46 per cent, adding that the government was also carrying out a number of projects to increase the number of boarding schools.

“The government is aware of the challenges of boarding schools especially for girls and we are planning construction of some more ten boarding schools in this financial year with 30bn/- set aside for the initial construction,” she pointed out.

At the press conference, Ms Mwalimu directed the regional, district and ward authorities to ensure that all the needed infrastructures are in order and ready to receive both boarding and day students.

She underscored the need for the parents and guardians to ensure that selected students report to respective schools as scheduled so that they complete their secondary education as planned.

For More News And Analysis About Tanzania Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Tanzania. …Public schools to accommodate all Form One students GOVERNMENT’S efforts to construct new classrooms has finally paid off as all pupils who have passed 2021 Primary Leaving Examinations will next year join secondary schools .
