Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>AN international firm, Total Energies, is in talks with the government on the possibility of the former to start generating electricity from solar and wind sources.<\/p>\n

A move is part of the ongoing efforts to complement the government’s industrialisation strategy and assure sufficient power supply for domestic and industrial use.<\/p>\n

This was revealed on Wednesday by Total Energies\u2019 Legal and Corporate Affairs Director, Getrude Mpangile, saying the company is capable of producing whatever amount of megawatts that will be mentioned by the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have started talks with the Ministry of Energy on the possibility of our company to generate electricity from renewable sources, this has been a long time dream of TotalEnergies, we hope that the talks will bear fruits,\u201d she said during an event to launch the new look of TotalEnergies lubricants.<\/p>\n

She said, upon completion of the talks and identification of the project areas, the company will immediately conduct a feasibility study, ready for execution of the project. The talks started one month ago.<\/p>\n

According to her, the company has enough experience in power generation as most European countries are using geothermal and wind electricity produced by TotalEnergies.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the TotalEnergies Managing Director Jean-Francois Schoepp attributed the government\u2019s continued efforts to improve business and investment climate as among reasons for expanding their business in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur success in business has been made possible because of the continued government support on attracting more investors in all angles of the business,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the company has spent 2 million US dollars in setting up a Lubricant and Oil Blending Plant (LOBP), a move that has helped in employment creation, transfer of skills and technology as well as contributing to the national economy.<\/p>\n

For his part, chief guest of the event, the Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Exaud Kigahe reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to continue supporting investors\u2019 innovation and keep on improving the business environment.<\/p>\n

He also commended the efforts by TotalEnergies on supporting the government\u2019s initiatives on industrialisation by investing in LOBP which is the largest and most innovative plant in East Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis investment is commendable and appreciated by the government since the plant has provided employment opportunities to Tanzanians as well as ensuring that there is availability of products in our market due to assurance of production within the country,\u201d said the deputy minister.<\/p>\n

According to the deputy minister, the plant is also engineered to meet the growing domestic demands of the neighbouring countries through the production of lubricants, coolants and grease for heavy duty machines and other vehicles.<\/p>\n
