Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>The Ugandan Parliament is scheduled to pass the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (Special Provisions) bill, 2021 on Tuesday (November 30) to allow the development and implementation of the much awaited–regional project.<\/p>\n

Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Dr Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu revealed during the Tanzania-Uganda Business Forum held at the Dar es Salaam-based State House on Sunday that \u201cafter the bill is signed-off we will see a lot of activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two Presidents, Tanzania\u2019s Samia Suluhu Hassan and Uganda\u2019s Yoweri Museveni attended the forum.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank the President of Tanzania (Samia Suluhu Hassan) for following up and asserting the implication legislation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cInvestors have been waiting for implementation legislation, a very key to the project.<\/p>\n

I want to assure you that in Uganda, the East Africa crude oil pipeline bill will be concluded by the parliament on Tuesday,\u201d she emphasised.<\/p>\n

The legislation is a requirement under both Uganda and Tanzania\u2019s signed Intergovernmental Agreement and the Host Government Agreement for the project.<\/p>\n

The Bill is to enable some provisions of the Intergovernmental Agreement signed between Uganda and Tanzania as well as the Host Government Agreement signed between Uganda and the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Company Limited to allow for progress of the project.<\/p>\n

The Minister quickly observed that during the project implementation, investors should make joint ventures and that a Tanzanian or Ugandan company on either side will not be considered a foreign company.<\/p>\n

The Eacop is a 1,445km long heated pipeline, a key component of the commercialisation of Uganda\u2019s oil, which will transport crude oil from the Lake Albert oil production sites at Tilenga and Kingfisher projects in western Uganda to Tanga in Tanzania.<\/p>\n
