TANZANIA top lady golfer, Madina Iddi says she is proud of her performance in the just ended Aon Women\u2019s Amateur Strokeplay and SA Amateur Matchplay championships as the tournament drilled her very well for the continental level tournament.<\/p>\n
The two high- ranked events organised by Women Golf South Africa (WSGA) ended over the weekend at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Iddi was among the four East African golfers who played in event.<\/p>\n
Others were Ugandan top golfers Irene Nakalembe, Peace Kabasweka and Wendy Angudeyo.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the \u2018Daily News\u2019 after returning from South Africa, Iddi said that she has learnt a valuable lesson in both events as they have drilled her and her fellow East Africans for the forthcoming All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT).<\/p>\n
Madina, who helped Tanzania to finish second overall behind dominant South Africa in the continental level tournament held in Ghana in 2018, went to South Africa with ambition to challenge top golfers, before heading to defend her individual title at the AACT to be staged in Namibia from March 29th to April 3rd this year.<\/p>\n
In South Africa events, Madina finished 29th overall in the 54-hole stroke-play battle that drew over 75 ladies from Switzerland, Reunion, Uganda and hosts South Africa.<\/p>\n
Iddi was among 32 golfers who qualified for the Match Play Championship after excelling in the stroke-play tournament.<\/p>\n
She was pitted against South African star Kaylah Williams, who was the third overall in the stroke-play and lost by a single stroke at the very end of the 18th hole.<\/p>\n
\u201c It was one of the biggest tests, but worthy one, it is always wise to face tough challengers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
However, Iddi said that her performance even surprised her high-ranked South African opponent. \u201c This means South African golfers are very far ahead of the rest.<\/p>\n
\u201c According to South Africans, the top three golfers at a Stroke-play event are the ones who will represent South Africa at AACT event in Namibia,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
