Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan on Monday clarified that the government will be readmitting all school dropouts in the formal education system, not teen mothers only as widely circulated.<\/p>\n

Among the reasons for dropping out of school have been outlined as truancy, school pregnancy and failing standard seven national examination.<\/p>\n

The Head of State made the clarification at the handing over ceremony of Museveni Primary School which has been named after Ugandan President.<\/p>\n

The school has been constructed in Chato, Geita region, under the sponsorship of President Yoweri Museveni.<\/p>\n

According to the President, much as the government decision focuses on children who have dropped out of school due to various reasons, on-going public discussions have been centered on the issue of teen mothers returning to school.<\/p>\n

“Some people have been thrilled with the decision while it’s quite the opposite for others…Normally chances of a girl who has become a mother at standard six to go back to school is difficult, but those in secondary usually return and proceed well with their studies up to the university level.<\/p>\n

President Samia said the goal of reaching the decision is to provide a wider chance for Tanzanian children to continue with their education, noting that the issue is focused on granting opportunities for them to decide.<\/p>\n

She added that “For those who cannot return to primary school, an alternative education system has been established for them to acquire skills which can help them and their children… this should not worry us to the extent of holding discussions on why teen mothers should go back to school.”<\/p>\n

She, however, identified similar living examples in other countries which have succeeded in re-admitting the dropouts, including Zanzibar, urging people not to worry, noting that the government was keen and will work on issues of concerns.<\/p>\n

Earlier on, the President applauded her counterpart, President Museveni for agreeing to construct the 1.7 million US dollar school in Chato, pointing out that it is a clear indication of his love for Tanzania.<\/p>\n

“This is a huge offering…it’s stated in the holy books that education is among huge offerings, and God will repay you abundantly for what you have done for Tanzania. We believe that without education there is no development.<\/p>\n

The President went on to reveal that the handing over of the school has come at an opportune time while the government continues to implement its fee free education policy.<\/p>\n

As such, she said the school will increase the opportunity to quality education and for more children to be enrolled because its infrastructure has placed special consideration for people with special needs.<\/p>\n

She pledged to oversee that all buildings and infrastructure at the school will be utilised well for the betterment of all children in Tanzania.<\/p>\n

She said that the late president John Magufuli would have ensured everything at the school is on course, therefore the government commits to take up the role of continuing with the construction of dormitories, houses for teachers and road infrastructure for everything to go smoothly.<\/p>\n

Equally, the President directed the education ministry to prepare a mechanism to ensure the school is equipped with all the necessary equipment so that it can start admitting students by January 15, next year.<\/p>\n

Similarly, she said the ministry should also ensure the history of Dr Magufuli and President Museveni are documented in the school library for the children who will be studying there to know the history of the initiators\u2019 patriotism and Pan-Africanism in ensuring all Africans are self-reliant economically, socially and politically.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, President Samia vowed to establish a sister school in Uganda where the pupils can exchange knowledge through study tours among other initiatives.<\/p>\n

For his part, President Museveni said the Museveni Primary School is not the only one he has donated; other two schools are in Muhutwe and Nyamiyaga Schools in Kagera Region.<\/p>\n

He revealed that the decision to support the construction of the schools was driven by a strong urge to show his appreciation to Tanzania due to the deep ties he has for the country.<\/p>\n

“This is the first institution to be named after me; globally there is no institution or amenity that has been called after me because I have always been refusing, but because my relatives have decided, I cannot disagree,” said President Museveni, adding that he has agreed to put up a sister school in Uganda as requested by his counterpart.<\/p>\n

Geita Regional Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule, noted the school makes up a total of 653 schools in the region and it becomes the 52nd English medium school.<\/p>\n

“Out of the 143 primary schools owned by the government in Chato District, the school is the only government English medium school,” she stated.<\/p>\n
