Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>Motorists are set to spend more on fuel in December following a rise in prices due to changes in the global markets.<\/p>\n

The prices for petrol and diesel, according to Energy and Water Utility Regulatory Authority (EWURA), increased for all consignments delivered in three ports of Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara.<\/p>\n

EWURA statement shows that Dar es Salaam\u2019s retail price for petrol increased by 71\/- while diesel increased by 149\/- and Kerosene by 47\/-.<\/p>\n

For the Tanga and Mtwara, the retail price of Petrol has increased by 47\/-litre and 114\/- litre, while diesel has increased by 134\/- litre and 144\/-.<\/p>\n

\u201cChanges in local prices are mainly attributed to changes in the world oil market prices and BPS [bulk procurement system] premiums,\u201d Ewura statement said.<\/p>\n

The notice showed that Dar es Salaam prices are the lowest in the country where motorists buy petrol at 2,510\/- and diesel at 2,392\/- while kerosene price is 2,235\/- which is the lowest in the country.<\/p>\n

According to Ewura, the highest prices have been recorded in Uvinza (Lugufu) 2,754\/- while 2,636 for diesel and Kyerwa (Ruberwa) in the Kagera region 2,748\/- for petrol, and 2,630 for diesel and kerosene 2,479\/- per litre.<\/p>\n

\u201cChanges in local prices are mainly attributed to changes in the world oil market prices and BPS [Bulk Procurement System premiums,\u201d Ewura said.<\/p>\n

Petrol prices have risen 23 per cent from 644.01 US dollars per tonne in May this year to 793.14 US dollars per tonne in October this year.<\/p>\n

Diesel prices have risen 30 per cent from 550.68 US dollars per tonne in May this year to 713.28 US dollars per tonne in October this year while Kerosene increased by 30 per cent from 558.90 US dollars per tonne in May this year to 726.56 US dollars per tonne in October this year.<\/p>\n

According to the trend of oil prices in the world market, prices in November this year have begun to decline. This will start to be reflected in the local market in January next year.<\/p>\n

EWURA said further that it is well known that the government continues to closely monitor oil price changes in the world market and do everything possible to avoid possible repercussions in the entire economic system in the country if prices rise sharply.<\/p>\n

This includes continuing to make the necessary adjustments in various government levies and taxes.<\/p>\n

The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) participated in the oil delivery tender for December this year and won two diesel fuel delivery bids. The oil will be expected to bring relief to the country.<\/p>\n

According to the oil supply schedule at the port of Dar es Salaam, fuel prices will be reflected in local prices in February.<\/p>\n
