Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has instructed the Ministry of Finance and Planning to ensure timely release of funds allocated for construction of permanent ministerial structures at the Mtumba government city in Dodoma.<\/p>\n

The Premier made the commitment when launching several projects at the city popularly known as Magufuli City, as he insisted that President Samia Suluhu Hassan had already provided the money.<\/p>\n

According to the PM, the government plans to spend 300bn\/- to construct about 24 modern permanent buildings at the government city of Mtumba in the country\u2019s capital during the second construction phase that was officially launched .<\/p>\n

He said that the construction of the buildings which will begin with one storey and above would be of high quality and that value for money would equally be considered.<\/p>\n

The PM said that this was yet another opportunity for local contractors and consultants to grab the opportunity during implementation of the projects to put up buildings for different ministries and other public institutions.<\/p>\n

The first phase of the construction of Magufuli City which kicked off on August 18, 2017 was completed on March 22, 2019. During that phase, 23 buildings which engaged eight contractors were completed, among them, SUMAJKT.<\/p>\n

Others are National Housing Corporation (NHC), Mzinga Corporation, Tanzania Prison Services, Watumishi Housing Company and other public construction companies. According to Mr Majaliwa, by using local contractors, the government saved billions of shillings.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the Premier asked the public sector to seize the opportunity as the projects kicked off. The second phase, according to him, will have 24 modern buildings as well as upgrading all roads at the city to tarmac level, adding that upon completion of the projects, there will be no public servants staying in Dar es Salaam save for those working in institutions that are needed at the country\u2019s business city.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hereby pay tribute to president Samia for approving 300bn\/- for the projects, and I want to assure the Head of State that we will have the best buildings that will meet all international standards, and upon completion after two years, we will invite her for the launching event,\u2019\u2019 he insisted.<\/p>\n

He said that already all ministries had completed all procurement procedures and that what was currently taking place was looking for qualified contractors to take up the work. He said that the construction of the buildings which will begin with one storey and above would be of high quality and that value for money would equally be considered.<\/p>\n

He tasked the National Task Force formed by the government to supervise implementation of the projects to ensure that building of the houses was being conducted concurrently with other permanent infrastructure of water, electricity, ICT as well as fire precautions, among others. The taskforce is led by Mr Meshack Bandawe.<\/p>\n

According to Mr Bandawe, the technical survey and investigation indicated that the construction site was secure to have modern storey buildings.<\/p>\n

Mr Majaliwa further tasked the committee of Permanent Secretary formed to supervise the project to ensure that the buildings were of high quality and ensure that there was value for money.<\/p>\n

He also directed contractors and supervisors of the projects to ensure the buildings are built in regards to the sketch and design as per the signed contracts. He equally instructed the officials in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office to work together with the ministry of Industry and Trade in mobilising construction materials to quicken the construction.<\/p>\n

\u201cA task force that coordinates construction for the government city here should ensure everything is in place to facilitate placement of the needed supportive infrastructures,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the activities should be done at high quality and within the time frame. The construction materials should be available on time. All challenges should be addressed on time,\u201d added Mr Majaliwa.<\/p>\n
