THE fate of three renowned political bigwigs within the ruling party, CCM, lies in the hands of its Central Committee scheduled to sit any time soon.<\/p>\n
CCM Secretary-General, Dr Bashiru Ally told a news conference here yesterday that the party\u2019s CC is expected to have its meeting this week to discuss a report concerning two former secretary generals of the party\u2014 Yusuph Makamba and Abdulrahman Kinana as well as former cabinet minister, Bernard Member.<\/p>\n
On February 12, this year, the CC issued a seven-day ultimatum to the party\u2019s disciplinary committee, led by Deputy CCM Secretary-General (Mainland), Philip Mangula to accomplish its report over the three long-serving cadres and submit it to respective party organs.<\/p>\n
This means, if the three-party bigwigs will be found guilty of their conduct, they may face expulsion from the party, warning or given exorbitant punishment as the party\u2019s CCM may deem fit.<\/p>\n
Mr Kinana and Mr Makamba were grilled over their alleged violation of the party\u2019s ethics and constitution.<\/p>\n
The two ex-secretaries appeared for questioning, quashing rumours that they had declined to show up for the exercise.<\/p>\n
The former party bigwigs alongside former cabinet minister Benard Membe were ordered in December last year by the National Executive Council (NEC) to appear before the party\u2019s disciplinary committee.<\/p>\n
Mr Membe was questioned last on February 04, in the country\u2019s capital, Dodoma. Dr Bashiru gave the party\u2019s progress on the fate of the former CCM leaders as he equally received 11 councillors from Mbeya Region who had decamped from the opposition Chadema to CCM.<\/p>\n
\u201c The CCM sub-committee accomplished its work, and we expect that this Wednesday, the report will be submitted before the party\u2019s defence and ethics committee after which the report will be available to the CC at the end of this week,\u2019\u2019 noted the party\u2019s Secretary-General.<\/p>\n
Dr Bashiru said that after the CC convenes its meeting, the party\u2019s Ideology and Publicity Secretary, Humphrey Polepole would convene a press conference either in Dar es Salaam or Dodoma to tell the public on the fate of the three party\u2019s bigwigs.<\/p>\n
Asked on what the possible punishment, the three-party cadres were likely to face, Dr Bashiru was reluctant, insisting that it was subject to the party\u2019s CC meeting and that the party would consider the defence that would be adduced before responsible authorities by all the three accused persons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
