Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE government has called upon medical health officers, including doctors to adhere to professional ethics when carrying out impairment assessment of occupational accident and diseases to victims.<\/p>\n

Permanent Secretary of State in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office (Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disability) Tixon Nzunda made an appeal in Mbeya City when opening the five-day training on impairment assessment of occupational accident and diseases to victims, an event that attracted doctors and other health service providers from Southern highland regions of Katavi, Rukwa, Songwe, Mbeya, Ruvuma, Njombe and Iringa.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen conducting impairment assessment of occupational accident and diseases on workers make sure you adhere to three issues: professionalism, integrity and accountability,\u201d said Mr Nzunda.<\/p>\n

According to Mr Nzunda, any slight error that will be made in the course of carrying out impairment assessment of occupational accident and diseases can seriously affect people\u2019s lives, including their family incomes, the country\u2019s economy and sabotaging the Workers Compensation Fund (WCF).<\/p>\n

He said the major objective of establishing the Fund by the government is ensure workers receive the rightful compensations as opposed to the compensations provided before the law was revisited.<\/p>\n

WCF Director General Dr John Mduma, on his part, said to ensure the Fund performs its core function of efficiently providing the compensations to the workers (victims) WCF has been timely and quickly carrying out the impairment assessment of occupational accident and diseases to individuals.<\/p>\n

\u201cProper and timely provision of compensations to victims requires close cooperation with our colleagues in work stations and health officials(doctors) who are charged with the role of carrying out impairment assessment of occupational accident and diseases,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Fund can\u2019t have doctors in every corner of the country. In this case we need doctors stationed in various places to closely work with us to ensure the assessment is quickly conducted and the respective victims receive compensations on time,\u201d he added Dr Mduma.<\/p>\n

Dr Mduma said the Fund continues to adhere to professionalism when discharging its responsibilities, adding that the training conducted to health professionals and doctors in Mbeya City proved the Fund\u2019s quest of going an extra miles in improving the quality of service provision to members .<\/p>\n

\u201cTo ensure the assessments carried out by experts are credible, trustworthy and predictable, there are guidelines set,\u201d said Dr Mduma.<\/p>\n

He thanked the Prime Minister\u2019s Office and the entire government for according full cooperation to the Fund so that it performs its duties efficiently.<\/p>\n
