Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>President Samia Suluhu Hassan has dissolved the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) board of directors as she directed the Works and Transport Ministry to take affirmative actions against procurement boards that offered a deal to construct five vessels to a ‘ghost’ company.<\/p>\n

The President made the decision on Saturday based on a report by a special investigation team formed to probe the legitimacy of the Turkish company Y\u00dcTEK.<\/p>\n

The company won a contract to build five passenger ships and cargo ships in the country.<\/p>\n

The special team formed by the President was composed of experts from the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Office of the Attorney General, soldiers from the navy and experts from MSCL.<\/p>\n

However, it was discovered that Y\u00dcTEK was neither financially capable nor experts to execute the contract.<\/p>\n

The contract worth 438.8bn\/- was signed in the presence of the President in Mwanza on 15th of June, this year.<\/p>\n

“I have instructed the Minister and the Office of the Attorney General to terminate the contract\u2026My only power was to dissolve the boards by removing chairpersons,” the President said.<\/p>\n
