Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE Fair Competition Commission (FCC) has successfully decided on 19 cases related to unfair competition in the past year.<\/p>\n

FCC Director General, Mr William Erio, said the cases include competitors’ plot to conspire against consumers on price fixing cartels, company arbitrary mergers without approval by FCC and conspiracy theories related to the abuse of market power.<\/p>\n

The FCC chief told reporters this week ahead of the World Competition Day which will be held tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Mr Erio said the day will be used to raise awareness and educate the public about FCC activities because statistics show that only 11 per cent are aware of FCC.<\/p>\n

“We will provide education across the country through various ways, including media, leaflets, conferences, upcoming national exhibitions on the FCC activities,\u201d said Mr Erio.<\/p>\n

During the Competition Day there will be a symposium and will serve as a forum for exchange of ideas among various stakeholders, including lawyers, sector advisors, financial institutions and other institutions as well as regulators, he said.<\/p>\n

The official guest at the ceremony is expected to be the Minister for Industry and Trade, Professor Kitila Mkumbo.<\/p>\n

The United Nations (UN) adopted the UN Set on Competition Policy on 5th December 1980, hence the call to recognise this date as World Competition Day \u2013 to help popularise the need for promoting competition reforms across the world for the benefit of consumers and producers.<\/p>\n

FCC ultimate goal is to increase efficiency in the production, distribution and supply of goods and services. Establishment of FCC is a significant step in the country effort to establish a fair market economy.<\/p>\n
