Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE Second Vice-President Hemed Abdulla Suleiman is today expected to officially open a week-long TANTRADE Trade Fair as one of the activities to celebrate Tanzania\u2019s 60 years of independence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the first time to organise such an event in Zanzibar. This is to support President Samia Suluhu Hassan on the occasion of celebrating the independence,\u201d Ms Latifa Mohamed Khamis- Director General of Tan-Trade told Journalists; on Sunday at the trade fair venue- Maisara Grounds in the Island.<\/p>\n

She said about 113 companies and institutions and at least five international firms have registered for the 3rd to 9th December, 2021 trade fair and exhibition, while Zanzibar\u2019s Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Trade and Industries development Dr Islam Seif Salum called on the public to show up in big numbers to visit and do shopping.<\/p>\n

Dr Salum further said, \u201cThis is also an opportunity to promote our locally made products or home made goods. The Second Vice-President will officially open it tomorrow (today).\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) in collaboration with the office of the Second Vice-President have also organized a one-day public forum to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Tanganyika independence, Vice- Chancellor Prof Mohamed Makame Haji said.<\/p>\n

He said the forum to be held at SUZA-Tourism college Hall will be graced by Prof Palamagamba Kabudi- Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs in the Union Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cMinisters, Permanent Secretaries, directors, senior government officers, academicians, Regional commissioners, retired VIP figures, political leaders, and students will be some of the invited people aimed at educating the public about Tanganyika independence and its link to stabilize the country,\u201d Prof Haji said.<\/p>\n

The Vice- Chancellor further said: \u2018Independence and social, economic, and political development\u2019; 60 years of independence in relation to the union government-successes and challenges; and reflecting on Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland development with regard to the independence, are topics set for discussion during the forum.<\/p>\n

Tanganyika gained independence on Dec. 9, 1961, and became a republic one year later. On April 26, 1964, it joined with Zanzibar to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.<\/p>\n
