{"id":42699,"date":"2021-12-08T16:28:19","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T16:28:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/?p=42699"},"modified":"2021-12-08T15:20:33","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T15:20:33","slug":"stanchart-launches-digital-banking-branch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/stanchart-launches-digital-banking-branch","title":{"rendered":"StanChart launches digital banking branch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania Limited has launched the first Digital Bank branch in Tanzania that aims to enhance convenience to its customers.<\/p>\n<p>The digital branch found at Shoppers Plaza in Mikocheni was officiated by Deputy Governor of Bank of Tanzania, Dr Bernard Kibesse in charge of Financial Stability and Deeping.<\/p>\n<p>In further extending ease of access to banking services, Standard Chartered Bank also launched agency banking dubbed as Standard Chartered Wakala.<\/p>\n<p>The launch of the agency banking and first digital banking branch is in line with the government\u2019s efforts to advance financial inclusion in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The digital branch is the first of its kind in Tanzania that enables customers to perform self-banking services such as depositing and withdrawing cash, making online transactions, depositing cheques and other banking services.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Bernard Kibesse, Deputy Governor of Bank of Tanzania in charge of Financial Stability and Deeping, commented, \u201cWhen we talk about financial inclusion, we look at the accessibility and utilization of affordable financial products and services.<\/p>\n<p>Digital banking is one of the ways facilitating ease of financial inclusion implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Standard Chartered Bank is the first bank to set up a digital branch in the banking industry. It is important to recognize that the digital branch offers an opportunity for banks to offer banking services differently hence enhancing customers\u2019 experience. I urge other banks to be innovative and establish digital branches to improve efficiency and offer a unique customer experience\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Executive Officer at Standard Chartered Bank Mr Sanjay Rughani said, \u201cDigitisation remains at the heart of our business strategy. We have always been a digital bank and constantly work to advance our digital banking capabilities that meet our client demands and promote the socio-economic development of Tanzania.<\/p>\n<p>Our digital branch will have a combination of technology as well as human interaction. We believe in embracing digital with a human touch.<\/p>\n<p>The digital branch will offer our customers an enhanced experience while performing their banking services. The introduction of our agency banking service is designed to enhance livelihoods while providing convenient and reliable services to customers\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ajmair Riaz, Head of Consumer, Private and Business Banking at Standard Chartered Bank said, \u201cThe digital branch will offer our customers the option to have self-banking services or get assistance from one of our staff members who will be present at the branch.<\/p>\n<p>To further cement our commitment to improving convenience, we have introduced agency banking to our customers.
