Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>Thousands of Dar es Salaam residents, including children, elders, government, religious and political leaders thronged the Uhuru stadium as early as 7:00am on Thursday to celebrate the 60th Independence Anniversary of the country.<\/p>\n

After gathering at a full packed stadium, various senior and top national and international officials started entering the facility and President Samia Suluhu Hassan motorcade surrounded by several motorcycles circled the stadium in slow motion, as the Head of State waved to the cheering crowd.<\/p>\n

At around 11am, performances of different groups began and awakened the cheering people who were in jovial mood all the time.<\/p>\n

A total of 600 pupils from both Mainland and Isles gathered at Uhuru Stadium to form \u2018MIAKA 60 YA UHURU\u2019 as Tanzanians commemorate the 60th independence anniversary today.<\/p>\n

Again, the pupils gather at the facility to form \u2018MH SAMIA KAZI IENDELEE\u2019 to mean ‘Honorable Samia let the Work Continue’. Pupils entertained multitudes at the stadium with superb performances.<\/p>\n

Tanzania People\u2019s Defense Force (TPDF) showed high combat capabilities at #Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam as the country marks 60 years since it attained its independence from British colonial rule.<\/p>\n

Former President Jakaya Kikwete, Zanzibar President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, Vice President; Philip Mpango, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa were among prominent people attended the event.<\/p>\n

Addressing the crowd, President Samia Suluhu Hassan thanked heads of state and leaders from different countries who joined with Tanzanians to celebrate Uhuru Day.<\/p>\n

Heads of State and leaders attended the event were Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Mozambique President Philipe Nyusi, President of Comoro Azali Assoumani and the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.<\/p>\n

Uhuru is also the presiding Chairman of the East African Community (EAC) and was invited at the event as a guest of honour.<\/p>\n
