Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>AS Tanzanians commemorate the 60th independence anniversary today, analysts have commended the initiatives undertaken to maintain peace, unity and harmony in the country.<\/p>\n

They are of the view that, for the past 60 years Tanzania has managed to stand a role model in promotion and upholding of peace and tranquility, saying it’s crucial for the citizens to protect the national values.<\/p>\n

Equally, they acknowledged the role played by national leaders in defending the interest of the country throughout the post-independence period.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the ‘Daily News’ on the eve of the Uhuru Day commemorations, a Lecturer at the University of Dodoma (UDOM), Dr Paul Loisulie mentioned the country\u2019s ability to maintain national unity and tranquility as a feat to brag on.<\/p>\n

Dr Loisulie also commended the efforts that have been taken to improve the economy by putting in place proper policies for business, investment as well as creating employment opportunities for Tanzanians.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should be proud of the fact that in the past 60 years, Tanzania has maintained national unity and remained one nation, it is a role model to other African countries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Adding; \u201cTanzania of today isn\u2019t the same as the status it had in the 1960’s, a lot of transformations have been engineered for the greater interest of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

He acknowledged the fact that Tanzania is now able to export some of the industrial manufactured goods contrary to the situation that was in the 1980\u2019s and early of 1990.<\/p>\n

According to Dr Loisulie, this, to a large extent, has played a crucial role in the improvement and provision of social services such as health, education, water, electricity and the construction of infrastructure to ease movement of goods, people and services.<\/p>\n

For his part, a Lecturer at the Center for Foreign Relations (CFR), Mr Innocent Shoo spoke on the country’s initiatives on establishing and cementing its multilateral diplomatic relations alongside implementation of different policies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe transformations that are being observed now in Tanzania’s foreign diplomacy are the results of multiple policies, including the current one, economic diplomacy that was established by the President of the third phase administration, the late Benjamin Mkapa,\u201d he said, adding implementation of the policy started in 2005.<\/p>\n

His comments were seconded by a lecturer at the Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College (Tudarco), Rachel Yusuph, who called on Tanzanians to keep working hard and uphold the national values for individual and national development.<\/p>\n

The scholar said for the country to continue maintaining its status, it was crucial for all Tanzanians to keep respecting each other and put forward national interest at all levels.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a peaceful country for 60 years isn’t a joke, it\u2019s something that needs celebrations and continued efforts to ensure stability and mutual understanding for many years to come,\u201d she said, insisting the importance of Tanzanians to keep supporting government efforts in promoting development.<\/p>\n

The 60th Independence Anniversary ceremony will be attended by, among others, Heads of State from the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) nations.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s celebrations have been spiced with a series of activities, including the launch of different development projects that were built in different parts of the country including Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Coast Region.<\/p>\n

The Minister of State in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labor, Employment, Youth and the Disabled Jenista Mhagama said on Tuesday that all is set for the historic event.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year\u2019s event will be held in style, being featured by a stylish marching and parade of our defense and security forces, demonstration of military equipment by the members of the Tanzania People\u2019s Defense Forces (TPDF), colorful calisthenics and other cultural performances,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

There will also be a fly-past by military jets and displays by 600 children aged between 10 and 18 years.<\/p>\n
