Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>OVER 40 members of the Tanzanian diaspora have expressed intention to invest in the country, targeting six key social and economic sectors.<\/p>\n

The group arrived in the country under their umbrella, Tanzania Diaspora Hub (TDH), and entered into an agreement with the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) in demonstrating their commitment.<\/p>\n

They wish to invest in a sisal processing plant, commercial agriculture, mining, food processing industries, energy, fish farming, housing and commercial construction.<\/p>\n

Their move was in response to President Samia Suluhu Hassan\u2019s recent call, urging the diaspora to think of investing back home.<\/p>\n

\u201cTPSF and TDH, after strategic discussions on shared objectives and interests, have chosen to continue to strengthen their collaboration by leveraging their collective resources to enhance the role of the private sector in bringing about socio-economic development,\u201d TPSF’s Executive Director, Francis Nanai, said in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday during signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).<\/p>\n

The agreement seeks to let Tanzanian expats put their capitals in investment projects, promote trade linkages, industrialization and promote economic diplomacy for sustainable Socio-economic development of Tanzania.<\/p>\n

Other areas of interests according to him are building commercial housings in different parts of the country and cementing economic diplomacy and trade promotion between Tanzania and the rest of the world where they live and work.<\/p>\n

Other parts of the agreement are that TDH will as well promote capacity building, research, lobbying and advocacy stewardship to enhance the role of the private sector in bringing about social economic development and growth in the country.<\/p>\n

TDH’s executive director Nassor Basalama highlighted other areas of interest to be included as helping Tanzanians to study abroad, marketing tourism attractions with the aim of wooing more tourists to Tanzania.<\/p>\n

Others, he said, will be promoting an online consultation system for business and marketing opportunities.<\/p>\n

Tanzanian nationals residing in the USA said they are eyeing to invest in growing avocado in Njombe region, cage fish farming in Tanga region among others.<\/p>\n

“We are here today to join President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s call for the diaspora to invest home. Also, to tell fellow Tanzanians that we are here to cooperate with them for the attainment of common goals which is development,” Mr Basalama stated.<\/p>\n
