Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>ZANZIBAR\u2019s Second Vice- President Mr Hemed Suleiman Abdulla has directed public leaders and executives to abide by laws and regulations and observe good governance in the execution of their duties.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to be role models in our workplaces by operating according to the laws and regulations including the code of conducts,\u201d said Mr Abdulla at the opening of the 4th National forum on good governance.<\/p>\n

The forum held here on Wednesday was attended by executives from different public offices and institutions.<\/p>\n

The second vice-president asked the executives to avoid malpractice because it is a violation of laws and against code of conduct.<\/p>\n

Mr Abdulla pointed out that there were some public servants who deliberately violated the laws and regulations, warning that such leaders risk being pros- ecuted and losing their job.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis forum is important be- cause it reminds us about good governance… We should all show support to President Hus- sein Mwinyi by working hard, collaborating, and being truthful for efficiency,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The 2VP said that people want to see effi- ciency in all public offices.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe promised them changes that would end corruption and bureaucracy, thus you should im- prove accountability in all gov- ernment offices,\u201d he reminded public office bearers.<\/p>\n

He urged public servants to make use of the new payment system to avoid loss and theft of public funds.<\/p>\n

Mr Abdulla also appealed to the general public to help maintain rule of law, good governance, and make Zanzibar free from corruption, by exposing corrupt executives. State Minister in the President\u2019s Office (Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service, and Good Governance) Mr Haroun Ali Suleiman also reminded the government workers to serve the people honestly as he thanked the Legal Service Facility (LSF) for facilitating the forum for public servants.<\/p>\n

Mr Seif Shaaban Mwinyi- Permanent Secretary, Ministry of State, President\u2019s Office (Constitution, Legal affairs, Public Service, and Good Governance) said that the good governance policy is under review to im- prove efficiency.<\/p>\n

LSF\u2019s Senior Programme Manager, Deogratias Bwire pledged to strengthen collaboration with government institutions dealing with people\u2019s rights, rule of law, justice and good governance to fight corruption and violation of human rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also happy to have been working with Police, Pris- ons, and the judiciary,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
