Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) has launched a programme for conducting trainings on safety and health at workplaces in public institutions countrywide.<\/p>\n

Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office (People with disabilities), Ms Ummy Nderiananga, graced the launch of the programme in Morogoro last week with the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) being the first institution. Ms Nderiananga called upon other public institutions to get ready for implementation of the new programme.<\/p>\n

\u201cI commend the NIC management for recognizing the importance of this training and deciding to collaborate with OSHA. I therefore urge the trainees to make good use of this training effectively and apply the obtained knowledge at your workplaces,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The deputy minister also directed OSHA to ensure that it reaches out to all public institutions and companies for the same purpose. \u201cIt is our hope that if this training is effectively provided it will help in reducing accidents, diseases and deaths caused by unfriendly workplace environment,\u201d she said, noting that it would relieve the government from incurring huge costs of treating injured people.<\/p>\n

On his part, OSHA\u2019s Director of Safety and Health, Mr Alexander Ngata, called upon various public institutions to cooperate with OSHA in order to successfully implement the programme. \u201cI ask the public institutions to set aside budgets for training their staff on safety and health at workplaces,\u201d Mr Ngata appealed.<\/p>\n

Some participants of the training from the NIC congratulated OSHA for introducing the programme which would bring efficiency and improve productivity. Mr Lihami Masoli, the NIC Finance and Administration Director said if the programme manages to reach out to all institutions it would contribute to strengthening safety and health of workers at workplaces.<\/p>\n
