Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>ZANZIBAR Deputy Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children Mwanaidi Ali Khamis has challenged Tengeru Institute of Community Development (TICD) graduates to embrace meaningful ideas, independence and flexibility.<\/p>\n

Ms Khamis, who was speaking during the Institute\u2019s 39th graduation ceremony here recently, insisted that creativity gives students the freedom to explore and learn new things from each other. \u201cAs they overcome challenges and bring their creative ideas to fruition, \u201cstudents begin to see that they have limitless boundaries,\u201d explained the Zanzibar Deputy Minister.<\/p>\n

Ms Khamis described creativity as an essential human skill \u2014 perhaps even an evolutionary imperative in the current technology-driven world. The Deputy Minister also challenged the institution to make good use of TICD\u2019s alumni as a source of inspiration for the students.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister equally commended TICD for mobilizing women and the youth for self-employment. \u201cOnce you acquire such skills, you\u2019ll be able to employ yourselves and colleagues,\u201d she said. On his part, TICD Rector George Bakari informed the Deputy Minister that the institution was striving to churn out qualified social workers to cope with the ever growing demand of the cadre in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always strived to be among the best so as to remain relevant and help the country in the area of community development,\u201d said Dr Bakari. A total of 1,449 graduates were conferred with different academic awards, ranging from certificates, diploma and Bachelor Degrees.<\/p>\n

Formerly known as known as the Community Development Training Institute, the Institute was established in 1963 and later re-established in the 2013. The Arusha-based institution was formally managed under the Ministry responsible for Community Development since its establishment.<\/p>\n
