Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>MINISTER of State, Vice President\u2019s Office (Union Affairs and Environment) Dr Selemani Jafo has issued 45-day ultimatum to Mpwapwa District leadership to complete installation of pipes and water storage tanks at Mbugani, Ngh\u2019ambi and Kiegea villages.<\/p>\n

Minister Jafo issued the ultimatum on Thursday during a working visit to inspect implementation of a project aimed at addressing effects of climate change through rural ecosystems under the Office of the Vice President, being implemented in five districts in the country, to wit, Mpwapwa, Mvomero, Kishapu, Simanjiro and North A.<\/p>\n

While at Nghambi village, Dr Jafo was disappointed with the contractor – Make Engineering from Dar es Salaam for failure to accomplish the project in a given timeframe, directing them to conclude the work as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

The projects are under climate change resilience project. He said the government\u2019s intention is to ensure that the services are delivered to the people, including ensuring access to clean and safe water. \u201cI give only 45 days for the water to start flowing from here; this project should be completed.<\/p>\n

These citizens want water early, staff should stop sitting in offices. I want people to start accessing the service, you should not go for holiday, public servants should not work from the offices; visit the sites and ensure you manage well the execution of the projects,\u201d stressed Dr Jafo.<\/p>\n

In addition, he appealed to the residents of Mbugani, Ngh\u2019ambi and Kiegea to make good use of the ongoing rains, by planting trees in many numbers to protect the environment, stressing that the environmental agenda is the priority of the government.<\/p>\n

Mpwapwa District Commissioner, Mr Josephat Maganga said he will ensure that the work is completed within the extra given time and water delivery services starts.<\/p>\n

Climate change resilience project using rural ecological systems is funded by the Climate Change Fund for Poor Countries through the World Environment Fund, where there are activities for drilling, construction of dips, drilling of dams and the manufacture of innovative stoves. Projects totaling 2,257,042,400\/-has been approved for implementation in Mpwapwa district<\/p>\n
