Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>LIVESTOCK and Fisheries Minister Mashimba Ndaki has called upon poultry and fish feed manufacturers to use protein-making technology to meet the country’s livestock feed market.<\/p>\n

The minister made the statement during a meeting with manufacturers and distributors of animal feeds.<\/p>\n

The meeting was convened to, among other things, discuss how to use the new protein-making technology for poultry feed production, prepared by the Dutch embassy.<\/p>\n

Mr Ndaki said the new technology, which is set for launching, will help poultry and fish farmers reduce some costs they incurred when buying seafood and soy containing protein to feed their livestock.<\/p>\n

He said the demand for poultry and fish feeds was high in the country, thus the Dutch embassy came up with a study that proved that alternative food could be added into the major feeds to win market.<\/p>\n

“The problem is how we can produce those types of animal feeds with enough protein to do business.<\/p>\n

On our part, the government will provide professional expertise and create an enabling environment for local and foreign investors,” said Mr Ndaki.<\/p>\n

Ndaki informed local investors that the technology is not complicated, calling upon them to use it to improve production of animal feeds rich in protein to win the local market.<\/p>\n

Professor Faistin Lekule, researcher for poultry and fish feed production, said in their study on poultry and fish feeds, they established that there were four ways to produce protein-rich food, including boiling and drying animals\u2019 blood after being slaughtered.<\/p>\n

The Dutch ambassador, Wiebe de Boer, said animal feeds are made mainly from soy and seafood for the production of protein foods for poultry and fish, but their cost is high since such food is also consumed by human beings<\/p>\n

“Tanzania and the Netherlands have been working together to promote agriculture and poultry industry for years.<\/p>\n

We therefore think it good to share knowledge in this area of animal feed as well,\u201d said ambassador Boer.<\/p>\n
