Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>OVER 20 development projects are implemented with funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB) amounting to 2.47 billion US dollars (about 5.7tri\/-), according to Finance and Planning Minister, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba.<\/p>\n

Dr Nchemba explained that 87 per cent of the funded 23 projects were for construction of infrastructures in the sectors of energy, roads, water and sanitation<\/p>\n

The remaining 13 per cent of the funds have been channeled to finance projects in the agriculture, private sector and economic governance, the minister explained as he thanked the bank for the support.<\/p>\n

It was upon meeting for talks with the Chief Executive Officer of the AfDB, Mr KipronohCheptoo, who oversees operation of the bank in eight African countries, namely Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Sudan, Eritrea and Uganda.<\/p>\n

“On behalf of the Government and the People of Tanzania, I commend the support of the African Development Bank to the development of the country since these major projects are being implemented through the funds provided by the bank have helped to boost the country’s economy,\u201d said DrNchemba.<\/p>\n

He cited other AfDB-funded projects as the One Stop Border Post (OSBP) at the Kenya-Tanzania border ofNamanga that has helped to boost trade between the two countries. The other is a water and environmental cleanness project in Arushathat has improved the lives of people in the region.<\/p>\n

DrNchembafurther mentioned the Outer Ring Road project in the capital city of Dodoma as another project that was implemented from the bank\u2019s funding. He noted that the project will open up economic opportunities for people of the region and neighboring regions.<\/p>\n

For his part, MrCheptoo commended Tanzania for its ability to implement major strategic projects that contribute to the country’s economic growth and human development.<\/p>\n

He promised that the bank is ready to continue cooperating with Tanzania by providing additional funds that will help complete the execution of various development projects.<\/p>\n

Mr Cheptoo said the AfDB will also provide funding for the implementation of new projects in three sectors including programme for industrial development,agriculture, skills development and youth employments as well as construction ofIfakara-Malinyi-Londo-Lumecha Road that is intended to connect regions of Morogoro and Ruvuma.<\/p>\n

The talks were held at the office of the Finance Minister in Dodoma, were attended by the Permanent Secretary and Paymaster General, Mr. Emmanuel Tutuba, Deputy Secretary General, Ms AminaKhamisShaaban, along with several Heads of Departments from both Tanzania and the AfDB.<\/p>\n
