Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>KNAUF Gypsum Tanzania Limited has handed over water projects and 200 desks to Makangaga and Kiranjeranje primary schools both located in Kilwadistrict ofLindiregion.<\/p>\n

The company has also donated 16 cartons of sanitary pads to Kiranjeranje Secondary school, a move that will help to reduce the number of girls missing school during their menstrual cycle.<\/p>\n

With the capacity to serve over 2,000 people, the water project consists of a borehole and its complete systems which include a pump. The much-needed project is expected to bring big relief to Makangaga villagers who had to walk miles away searching for water.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the project handover ceremony, Knauf East Africa Regional Director, Ilse Boshoff, said Knauf Gypsum Tanzania, the company which owns gypsum mines in the respective village handed over the project to Makangaga residents, to give back to the community, adding that the project will have a positive impact to the villagers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project will not only boost the residents’ health but will also increase economic productivity, particularly for girls and women who will no longer need to spend long hours on finding clean water elsewhere. \u201cThis gives girls the opportunity to attend schools freely,” she said.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the donation of 200 desks to Makangaga and Kiranjeranje primary schools, the Regional Director said the donation aims at supporting government efforts to improve the learning environment in the two schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur intentions are based on the fact that education is the foundation of any society and therefore very essential in the socio-economic development of every nation and if the education system is neglected of basic facilities to make pupils comfortable in learning, then it would not have achieved its real meaning,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging the generous donation, the Kilwa District Executive Director, MrEstonNgilangwa thanked Knauf Tanzania for the gesture, saying the desks came at the right time and was a great relief as it would help a great deal in reducing the shortage of desks the two schools were facing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWater is life, and we are so grateful to Knauf Tanzania for bringing life to us. Villagers and especially women and girls had to walk for miles in search of water. Now closer to their homes, they will have less burden and can have more time to engage in economic activities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
