Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>JANETH Magufuli, widow of the late fifth-phase President, Dr John Magufuli, has expressed gratitude to all Tanzanians, both on the mainland and Zanzibar for their continued presence and support.<\/p>\n

She thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan on behalf of the family, for being close to them since the day they lost their beloved ex-Head of State, Dr Magufuli..<\/p>\n

\u201cWe in the family are grateful,\u201d Ms Magufuli added, \u201cbut we cannot thank everyone who came up for us from the time of funeral until now,\u201d the former First Lady said yesterday, during a memorial service in commemoration of Dr Magufuli\u2019s death anniversary in Chato District, Geita Region.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cI believe that we are taught to be thankful for everything in all religions, so I want you to join me in praising God according to Psalm 108: 3-4, which says, I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.<\/p>\n

Because your love is greater than the heavens, and your faithfulness reaches the skies.\u201d The former First Lady, speaking in public for the first time since her husband\u2019s death, expressed gratitude to all who attended the memorial service.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will undoubtedly live and cherish him forever,\u201d she said, thanking God for His mercy and generosity in allowing them to live and learn many beautiful things from the late Magufuli during his lifetime.<\/p>\n

The Magufuli family also expressed gratitude to Ms Jenista Mhagama, Minister of State in the President\u2019s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance and the ministry\u2019s Permanent Secretary Dr Laurean Ndumbaro, who was the Chairperson of the coordination committee and all committee members, the Geita regional leadership, various stakeholders, and all those who worked with them to ensure the memorial service was held.<\/p>\n

The service was attended by President Samia and various senior government officials, retirees and community members.<\/p>\n

Other leaders who attended the event included the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Mwinyi and his wife as well as the VicePresident, Dr Philip Mpango Others are the Speaker of the National Assembly Tulia Ackson, the Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Angelina Mabula, the Minister of State in the President\u2019s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Innocent Bashungwa, and the Tanzanian High Commissioner to Malawi, Humphrey Polepole.<\/p>\n

There were also retired leaders including the fourth phase Vice-President, Mohamed Gharib Bilal, retired Prime Ministers–Joseph Warioba and Mizengo Pinda.<\/p>\n

Also in attendance were former Speaker of Parliament, Anne Makinda, the wife of the late third term President, Benjamin Mkapa, Mama Anna Mkapa.<\/p>\n

After the memorial service, President Samia, other leaders and family members laid wreaths at Magufuli\u2019s grave.<\/p>\n

Magufuli, who died on March 17, 2021, from heart complications at Mzena Hospital in Dar es Salaam, while receiving treatment, was buried on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the family\u2019s cemetery in Mlimani village in Chato.<\/p>\n
