Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE Magufuli Bus Terminal in Ubungo Municipality has collected a total of 3.4bn\/-in the past 11 months, the funds that are used to improve various infrastructures at the state-of-the-art terminal.<\/p>\n

The municipal has also spent 1.1 bn\/- on provision of loans to groups of women, youths and people with disabilities. The interest-free loans are aimed at improving the lives of citizens.<\/p>\n

This was revealed by Ubungo Municipal Information Officer, Ms Joina Nzali yesterday during the launch of a one month campaign for encouraging citizens to pay taxes, fees, and levies charged by the council.<\/p>\n

The campaign started yesterday and is expected to end on June 6 this year. Ms Nzali noted that the target for the 2021\/22 financial year is to collect 23bn\/- and it has so far already collected 18bn\/-.<\/p>\n

She said the Ubungo Municipality was insisting on its tax officials to increase creativity in managing taxes and other tariffs to ensure that the collections are effective.<\/p>\n

She said the strengthened revenue collection at the Magufuli Bus Terminal has managed to acquire funds for improving services for passengers and citizens at the station by improving several infrastructures, including the construction of a bridge connecting the station and the Mbezi Mwisho Bus Station.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven the good management by municipal officials, these sources of revenues have been instrumental in development projects, as these collections are used by municipality in implementing various projects for the development of citizens,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She added that in the next financial year the municipality is planning to collect 27bn\/- as it banks on the ongoing campaign for educating citizens on the importance of paying fees, taxes and other various charges.<\/p>\n

Explaining on development attained from the collected revenues, she noted that the municipality has built 100 classrooms, two health centres and three dispensaries.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn ensuring that tax payment services reach to citizens, the municipal will build offices in Manzese and Goba areas in order to protect citizens from conmen who tend to deceive them,” she said.<\/p>\n

On his part, Municipal Alcohol Manager, Gasati Bhoke, noted that currently there is a total of 4256 bars, beverages wholesalers, retail stores and local beers.<\/p>\n
