Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>KILIMANJARO Regional Commissioner (RC), Stephen Kagaigai has argued that the annual Uhuru Torch race has no political affiliation but is aimed at encouraging the development of the country and its people.<\/p>\n

Mr Kagaigai made the remarks on Wednesday in Moshi, Kilimanjaro region, when he was briefing on the arrival of the Uhuru Torch in the region early next week, where he also appealed to leaders of all registered political parties to encourage their members to participate in the race.<\/p>\n

“The Uhuru Torch does not have any political ideology, so I urge the residents to come out in large numbers to welcome it with mobilising messages, among other things, to encourage others to avoid acts that cause moral erosion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Recalling words of the late Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, he said, the Uhuru Torch aims at bringing hope and peace in the country, as well as promoting development for the benefit of all Tanzanians regardless of their differences in their ideologies.<\/p>\n

In addition, Mr Kagaigai said he was satisfied with the awareness among the residents of Kilimanjaro region in participating in development matters.<\/p>\n

“There is huge awareness among the people when it comes to development issues as they devote their energy to contribute to the development. In some places I found people who have started to volunteer by starting socio-economic projects and later on the government came in to give its contribution, this enthusiasm is very high when it comes to issues that aim at bringing development\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Uhuru Torch Race has a theme insisting on advocating for the need for the public to effectively participate in the upcoming national census for proper planning for national development.<\/p>\n

Mr Kagaigai said the region will receive the Uhuru Torch on June 6, this year, at Bendera village, Bendera ward, in Same District.<\/p>\n
