{"id":59687,"date":"2022-07-19T16:18:34","date_gmt":"2022-07-19T16:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/tari-naliendele-unveils-improved-groundnut-varieties"},"modified":"2022-07-19T16:24:26","modified_gmt":"2022-07-19T16:24:26","slug":"tari-naliendele-unveils-improved-groundnut-varieties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/tari-naliendele-unveils-improved-groundnut-varieties","title":{"rendered":"TARI Naliendele unveils improved groundnut varieties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>A NEW groundnut variety with high oil yields is among 15 improved groundnut varieties released by Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) Naliendele, to boost crop production in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The variety named Mnanje 2009 has the highest oil content of 51 per cent compared to other varieties grown in the country.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the &#8216;Daily News&#8217; here, a Research Assistant with TARI Naliendele, Mr Anthony Bujiku said the variety that has huge market traits for oil production companies, is tolerant to drought and diseases.<\/p>\n<p>It takes 110 to 120 days to mature producing large size, sweet and red in colour with an average yield ranging between 1 to 1.5 tonnes per hectare. The variety is well adapted to medium and high altitude.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bujiku, thus, called for groundnuts growers, oil groundnuts investors and other stakeholders to visit TARI Naliendele and learn more about the improved Mnanje 2009 groundnut variety.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We call upon groundnut farmers and investors to come and learn the better use of improved variety and production technologies essential for boosting yields,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that farmers and other people visiting the institute will be able to get in-depth knowledge on preferences, production challenges and priorities in production technology development.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Apart from Mnanje 2009 variety, we also have varieties for making good quality peanut butter, roasting&#8230;we therefore, encourage our farmers and business people to come, learn production technologies, use the new released varieties to boost productivity,&#8221; said Mr Bujiku.<\/p>\n<p>He reiterated the need for groundnut farmers to use the new improved variety as they are essential for boosting crop yields, as well as contributing to domestic production of cooking oil.<\/p>\n<p>Other new varieties released by TARI include Naliendele 2009, Mangaka 2009, Narinut 2015, Mtwaranut 2016, Tanzanut 2016, Masasi 2009, Kuchele 2016, Naliendele 2016, Nachi 2015.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\">Tanzania<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania.
