Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) has asserted that all Msomera, residents who have relocated from Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) will have access to clean and safe water by the end of this month.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, RUWASA Director General, Engineer Clement Kivegalo said the authority has put up a number of initiatives to ensure that 17,000 residents are provided with water services.<\/p>\n

He said they are implementing short and long term water projects to Msomera village residents in Handeni district of Tanga region, for immediate interventions.<\/p>\n

In the short term, RUWASA is constructing 30 water centres of which 12-water access points are operational and the remaining one is under construction and is almost 70 per cent complete. It will start offering service by end of this month.<\/p>\n

Eng Kivegalo said when the construction of 30 water access centres and three cattle drinking water ponds points are complete, the 17,000 Msomera village residents and their livestock will be assured of clean and safe water.<\/p>\n

In long term, he said, the rural water agency is going on with the construction of the water dam project in the areas and that the government has injected 1.99bn\/-, the task that has been done by 15 per cent.<\/p>\n

The move is in line with the government\u2019s commitment to ensure water availability and reliability to the residents and their livestock.<\/p>\n

Minister for Water, Mr Jumaa Aweso, had said that his ministry would ensure that all water projects in Msomera village were completed on time, so that the residents could access clean and safe water.<\/p>\n

“Through the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), we are going to construct a dam, which will be able to store 700 million litres of water and we have already completed the procurement process. A contract has been signed and we have disbursed 300m\/- for the work to continue and all the ministry engineers are here,” said Mr Aweso.<\/p>\n

The government embarked on an exercise of relocating the villagers from Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) in Arusha region to Msomera village voluntarily.<\/p>\n
