Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>TANZANIA car importers companies have commended the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) for reverting to pre-shipment inspection of imported vehicles to avoid turning the country into a dumping place.<\/p>\n

The TBS announced last week that all vehicles imported from Japan will be inspected in the exporter\u2019s country by using the Pre-shipping Verification of Conformity to Standards (PVoC) procedure abandoning vehicle inspection after arriving in the country by the procedure known as Destination Inspection (DI).<\/p>\n

An official from Afritel System Company Limited Edson Kileo dealing with cars from Japan said that destination inspection was challenging and costly to importers.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can import a car from Japan but during the inspection in the country, the car is found to have problems and this is a big loss for the importer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also added that pre-shipment inspection of vehicles was better than destination inspection.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe inspection will help reduce challenges we have been facing during the delivery of cars in the country, whereby many problems with the tyres or engines were being reported,” said Mr Kileo.<\/p>\n

He also said that to reduce these challenges, it is better to undertake inspections abroad despite the cost of car inspections from abroad being higher than in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cCar inspection in the country costs range from 326,480\/- to 349,800\/- while in abroad the inspection ranges from 200 to 300 US dollars (466,400\/- to 699,600\/-,” said Mr Kileo.<\/p>\n

On his part, Steve Soko from JAMAAP Company Limited said that this process will greatly help to reduce the inconvenience that we used to have of double payments to make the car ordered.<\/p>\n

“You can see a nice car when you look at it, but it has a lot of challenges when it comes to be inspected in the country,” said Mr Soko.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, an official with the TBS Said Issa said that the inspection of the vehicles will be conducted by EAA Company Limited in Japan.<\/p>\n

He also said that the procedures for acquiring the company have been used in accordance with the laws of the country and the criteria that had been established have been followed by the company.<\/p>\n

Eng. Issa added that the procedure will help to avoid maintenance costs for car buyers, which is the leading challenge faced by stakeholders of car importers and sellers.<\/p>\n

He also said that the organization is continuing with the procedures to find agents for the inspection of cars coming from the United Kingdom, Dubai and Singapore and when the procedure is completed, the importers and car dealers will be informed.<\/p>\n
