{"id":61130,"date":"2022-08-04T15:43:33","date_gmt":"2022-08-04T15:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/govt-stresses-local-content-in-energy-sector"},"modified":"2022-08-04T15:54:01","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T15:54:01","slug":"govt-stresses-local-content-in-energy-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/govt-stresses-local-content-in-energy-sector","title":{"rendered":"GOVT STRESSES LOCAL CONTENT IN ENERGY SECTOR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has assured players in the energy sector that the government will continue to put in place appropriate regulations and mechanisms to enable effective local content and participation in the value chains.<\/p>\n<p>The Premier made the assurance on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam while officiating the opening of fourth Tanzania Energy Congress at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn order to develop and facilitate local businesses and Tanzanians to effectively participate in the energy sector, the government will also establish thresholds for local participation in each stage of the value chain,\u201d PM Majaliwa told participants at the well-attended congress, which climaxes today.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThe measures will also ensure that companies (in the energy sector) implement career development programmes and demonstrate succession plans for Tanzanians employed in their companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d<br \/>\nMr Majaliwa stated further that the government will facilitate acquisition of appropriate technology and ensure that petroleum and service companies develop skills, transfer technology, employ and develop local personnel to managerial positions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will go in line with facilitating the private sector to acquire technical skills required in the energy sector and ensure local training institutions impart necessary skills and knowledge on energy to Tanzanians,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Majaliwa outlined the priorities of the government in the energy sector as construction of East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) from Hoima in Uganda to Tanga port in Tanzania as well as construction of a Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) plant in Lindi Region.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned other areas of importance as establishment of regional natural gas infrastructure, and investment in renewable energy in addition to local content development, skills and capacity building for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).<\/p>\n<p>The Premier underlined the fact that Tanzania is endowed with various energy resources including hydro, natural gas, solar, wind, geothermal and tidal waves that may play a pivotal role in the development of the country and its economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, these sources will not automatically be a blessing without having a clear vision and mission backed up with appropriate policy, legal and institutional framework that guide the entire value chain of its exploration and exploitation,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking earlier at the occasion, the Minister for Energy, Mr January Makamba, said the gathering was important in promoting investments in the energy sector in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Makamba noted further that the objectives of the congress are in line with Tanzania Energy Policy of 2015 which emphasizes on development of domestic energy resources at low cost, promotion of economic energy pricing as we improve energy reliability and security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is more, in Tanzania we are blessed with a leader (President Samia Suluhu Hassan) who is determined to make the energy sector among sources of economic growth,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day event has brought together different players including local and foreign experts in the energy sector.<\/p>\n<p>It provides a platform for sharing experiences and challenges facing the sector where energy ministers from selected African countries will exchange views on how to improve the continent\u2019s economy through development of the sector and investments in lowcarbon energy infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\">Tanzania<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania.
