Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>A takeover bid of the non-functioning Naura Springs hotel has attracted more international companies than local ones, it has been revealed. According to Randle Mrema, the acting Managing Director of Impala Hotels Group, a great deal of international hotel chains are interested in running the was once a leading outfit in the country\u2019s tourism hotspot which belonged to a hotel magnate, the late Meleo Mrema.<\/p>\n

\u201cMuch as we had also wished to see the facility been taken by a local entrepreneur, we have only been approached by foreigners only,\u201d said Mr Mrema in a telephone interview with this paper yesterday.<\/p>\n

As the clock ticks towards the April 5 deadline, Mr Mrema said they were still hoping to get bids from locals as well. The hotelier disclosed that there have been a number of site visits since the offer came to the public domain on March this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome details have been exchanged but it is too early to shed light on them,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Mr Mrema also hinted that local bidders will get the best of deals, should they wish to run the towering hotel establishment located on Afrika Mashariki road.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur priority was local investors but the window is still open,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Mr Mrema confided to this writer that major hotel brands in Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were among chains that had shown interest of running and managing the non-functioning Naura Springs hotel in Arusha. Also on the list was a South African based hotel chain.<\/p>\n

In an advert published in the \u2018Daily News\u2019 dated March 3, 2023, the management of the Impala Hotels Group invited qualified local, foreign and multinational companies, managers and hotel owners with demonstrated financial capability and experience in managing and operating tourist and resort hotels to submit written expression of for the leasing the hotel.<\/p>\n

According to Mr Mrema, invitation was open for anyone with a financial capacity to run or lease the facility for a certain period of time, depending on the agreed terms.<\/p>\n

Naura Springs Hotel was once a leading outfit in the country\u2019s tourism hotspot which belonged to a hotel magnate, the late Meleo Mrema. The tycoon passed on in South Africa in August 2017 leaving behind the two establishments and other hotels and commercial properties in Arusha and Moshi.<\/p>\n

During its heydays, the hotel used to host local and international conferences. Things would however take a bitter turn, following the death of Mr Mrema.<\/p>\n
