Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>TANZANIA Premier League Board (TPLB) has introduced a four team Community Shield mini- tournament.<\/p>\n

The four-team event is aimed to help increase funds for charitable activities.<\/p>\n

The new format is expected to be introduced next season whereby in the Premier League, three top teams on the table earn direct qualification for the tournament while the fourth team will be the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) champions.<\/p>\n

Breaking the news in Dar es Salaam recently, TPLB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Almasi Kasongo said they have made the changes in order to raise enough funds to be channeled for charity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe proceeds of Community Shield are channeled to solve a particular problem in the community hence by having a four-team contest, we will be able to get enough revenue to achieve the intended purpose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Adding, he said the mini-tournament brings the Premier League champions, runners up, and the third-placed side whereas the fourth team will be holders of the ASFC.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it happens that the Premier League champions have also clinched the ASFC title, then the contest will involve the top four teams of the Premier League,\u201d clarified Kasongo.<\/p>\n

Initially, only one match was played to identify the community shield winner which involved the Premier League winner against the ASFC victors, and if it happened that the league winners have also claimed the ASFC silverware, the final was played between the top two teams on the league table.<\/p>\n

In this case, it is evident that the upcoming mini-tournament will involve Young Africans, Simba, Azam and Singida Big Stars, the league\u2019s top finishers.<\/p>\n

Also, Yanga and Azam have reached in the ASFC finals meaning that one of them will get a direct qualification to play in the community shield mini-tournament.<\/p>\n

Also, Kasongo pointed out that they are doing everything possible to ensure the issue of Club Licensing is being implemented by all competing clubs saying it is crucial.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that the only way we can make it big in terms of promoting our football is by ensuring that we put Club Licensing above everything because it is an essential component of football development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
