Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>MWANZA :<\/b> THE Workers Compensation Fund (WCF) has organised a two-day strategic working session with the judicial top cadres in the Lake Zone, to impart them with the better understanding of the Fund\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n

The High Court judges in the Lake Zone and the directors of the Commission of Mediation and Arbitrations (CMA) have attended the capacity building working seminar on Section 5 of the Workers Compensation Act [Cap.263 Revised Edition of 2015].<\/p>\n

The strategic working session staged in Mwanza was opened on Friday by the WCF Director General, Dr John Mduma.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the participants, Dr Mduma said, the Court is an important instrument in the process of payment of compensation to employees who suffer occupational injuries or contract occupational diseases arising out of and in the course of their employment and in case of death, for their dependents.<\/p>\n

The training is part of the implementation of the sixth phase government directives under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, seeking public institutions to increase efficiency and quality delivery service to the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis working session will bring significant benefits including strengthening relationships, aiming at providing better services to the public and contributing to growing our country\u2019s economy.\u201d Dr Mduma said.<\/p>\n

Dr Mduma further explained, the training will enable executives from the High Court (Labour Division) and CMA to better understand the Workers Compensation Act, as a significant tool for them to make decisions as to advise on compensation to employees and WCF activities as a whole.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, the Court and the CMA are key stakeholders in the enforcement of the workers compensation law but we are also building a common understanding because the workers compensation Act, means a lot in evidence collection procedures so it\u2019s good to stick together to see how we can implement it,\u201d He emphasised.<\/p>\n

The Presiding Judge of the High Court of Tanzania \u2013 Labour Division, Dr Yose Mlyambina hailed the management of WCF for being ready to cooperate with the judiciary institutions concerning resolving labour disputes.<\/p>\n

He said the training will greatly help institutions exchange experiences in legal matters related to compensation payments to employees who suffer occupational injuries or contract occupational diseases arising out of and in the course of their employment and in case of death, for their dependents.<\/p>\n

Acting Director of the CMA, Mr Thomas Malekela said the commission addresses violated rights in the workplace.<\/p>\n
