Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>HASSAN Maajar Trust (HMT) has handed over a computer building worth 32m\/- to Majengo Primary School in Bagamoyo, Coast Region.<\/p>\n

Also in this initiative, Nos Vies en Paratage Foundation (NVEP) which is sponsored by the President and CEO of Barrick Gold Corporation, Mark Bristow handed over 13 computers to the school worth 10,000 US dollars.<\/p>\n

The HMT Chairperson, Amb Mwanaidi Sinare Maajar said the construction was costly due to the fact that the school is not fenced hence it was necessary to reinforce the windows against break-in.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is part of HMT to adopt a school and improve the learning environment through construction or renovation of the infrastructure,\u201d Ms Maajar said.<\/p>\n

For now, she said they are seeking partners to join efforts to renovate five buildings at Majengo.<\/p>\n

HMT was renowned for its major campaign \u2018A Desk for Every Child\u2019 which succeeded in providing 10,000 desks, benefitting over 30,000 students in 13 regions in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe then saw the need to provide computer lessons in primary schools which is unavoidable in today\u2019s world context,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She also noted that each journey starts with a first step and that this project is HMT\u2019s first step in adopting Majengo to serve as an example for donors and people of goodwill to support the government in the education sector.<\/p>\n

She added that through donations and various fundraising events such as the dinner gala, charity walk and book sale, the Trust succeeded to a large extent in raising awareness and acknowledgment that the responsibility of improving the learning environment in schools cannot be left to the government alone.<\/p>\n

Gracing the event, the Bagamoyo District Commissioner, Halima Okash lauded HMT for its decision to tackle the challenges to improve the learning environment in schools.<\/p>\n

She noted HMT\u2019s donation of desks, books including reading corners, construction of toilets and now a computer building with computers for Majengo Primary School.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of the government, I commend you for your efforts in providing our students with conducive learning environment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

During the event, Barrick representative Mr Georgia Mutagahywa said: \u201cNVEP and Barrick are delighted to have partnered with HMT considering the importance of IT in work and in individual development and the country\u2019s development in general,\u201d<\/p>\n

Barrick recognises the need for children to learn IT early in life and hence the readiness to contribute towards this worthy project.<\/p>\n

The Majengo Primary School Head Teacher, Ms Magdalena Amsi, thanked HMT for providing the computer building and computers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will enable students in this school to learn in a friendly environment especially to have access to IT education, a worldwide requirement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe need for computers has long been a major challenge in our school, we are grateful for this support from HMT and Barrick,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
