Il fait chaud \u00e0 br\u00fbler les cierges ce midi \u00e0 N’Djam\u00e9na. Le vent, soufflant faiblement par moments, apporte une chaleur br\u00fblante. Sous un arbre rabougri au quartier Demb\u00e9 II, Ali, le patriarche s’entoure de quelques notables.<\/p>\n

Policiers finissant de r\u00e9gler la circulation du matin, colporteurs \u00e9reint\u00e9s, conducteurs de taxi, \u00e9l\u00e8ves, tous sont allong\u00e9s de dos ou \u00e0 plat ventren, sous l’\u00e9changeur o\u00f9 l’air est exceptionnellement frais.<\/p>\n

La plupart des je\u00fbneurs sont tomb\u00e9s en l\u00e9thargie. Le vacarme des automobiles ne les en r\u00e9veille nullement. D’autres, poss\u00e9dant encore un brin d’\u00e9nergie, causent \u00e0 voix basse, les yeux mi-clos ou s’efforcent de s’exercer \u00e0 quelques t\u00e2ches.<\/p>\n

Moussa, blanchisseur, range les v\u00eatements en attendant que l’ardeur du soleil ne se calme pour rentrer chez lui. A la sortie des classes au Lyc\u00e9e Fontaine, \u00e0 200 m\u00e8tres du viaduc, Youssouf et Oumar ne peuvent rentrer \u00e0 Klemat \u00e0 cause la chaleur torride.<\/p>\n

Sur les berges du fleuve Chari, les centaines de je\u00fbneurs venus patauger dans l’eau se sont h\u00e2tivement agglutin\u00e9s sur le cadavre d’un adolescent extirp\u00e9 des profondeurs du m\u00e9chant fleuve.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Hier encore un enfant s’est noy\u00e9 \u00bb, raconte l’assistance qui se bouscule \u00e0 identifier le gamin inerte.<\/p>\n

Celui-ci en effet est venu comme plusieurs jeunes de sa tranche d’\u00e2ge, se rafra\u00eechir dans le fleuve. Subitement, il s’\u00e9loigne, emmen\u00e9 par le courant, ingurgitant avidement l’eau. Un adulte venu \u00e0 son secours ne transporte sur les rives qu’un cadavre.<\/p>\n
