Mais gra\u0302ce a\u0300 une organisation humanitaire spe\u0301cialise\u0301e dans la chirurgie, la fillette a pu be\u0301ne\u0301ficier d’une intervention chirurgicale qui l\u2019a re\u0301ellement transforme\u0301e.<\/p>\n

Lorsqu’Adama est ne\u0301e dans une re\u0301gion recule\u0301e du centre du Se\u0301ne\u0301gal, en Afrique de l’Ouest, la joie de sa maman pour son premier-ne\u0301 a rapidement ce\u0301de\u0301 la place a\u0300 la peur lorsqu’elle a vu sa fente labiale. Se croyant responsable et craignant de ne pas pouvoir s’occuper correctement d’Adama, elle a laisse\u0301 le nouveau-ne\u0301 aux soins de ses parents.<\/p>\n

Au de\u0301but, Binta, la grand-me\u0300re d’Adama, s’est battue pour re\u0301ussir a\u0300 nourrir le be\u0301be\u0301 a\u0300 cause de sa fente labiale, un handicap connu pour ces nombreux be\u0301be\u0301s qui doivent lutter contre la malnutrition. Mais Binta a persiste\u0301 jusqu’a\u0300 ce que la petite fille soit assez forte pour survivre. Malgre\u0301 les difficulte\u0301s, ses grands-parents n’ont jamais abandonne\u0301.<\/p>\n

En grandissant, Adama craignait de jouer avec les autres enfants, car ils se moquaient souvent d’elle. Elle pre\u0301fe\u0301rait rester pre\u0300s de ses grands-parents, ou\u0300 elle se sentait en se\u0301curite\u0301.<\/p>\n

Son grand-pe\u0300re Issa raconte : \u00ab\u00a0Elle nous regardait toujours quand nous faisions notre travail. Elle e\u0301tait curieuse et essayait d’imiter nos comportements.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Mais la re\u0301ticence d’Adama a\u0300 quitter le confort offert par ses grands-parents en raison de sa fente labiale la retenait. Sa grand-me\u0300re avait peu d’espoir de la voir gue\u0301rir un jour et elle avait accepte\u0301 son sort.<\/p>\n

Puis, au de\u0301but de l’anne\u0301e, une e\u0301tincelle d\u2019espoir s’est allume\u0301e a\u0300 la nouvelle de l\u2019arrive\u0301e du navire-ho\u0302pital de Mercy Ships sur les co\u0302tes du Se\u0301ne\u0301gal pour proposer des ope\u0301rations chirurgicales gratuites. Binta ne savait pas si elle pouvait faire confiance a\u0300 Mercy Ships, mais elle a de\u0301cide\u0301 de tenter sa chance, pousse\u0301e par le de\u0301sir d’aider sa petite-fille.<\/p>\n

Depuis leur village pre\u0300s de Ke\u0301dougou, grand-me\u0300re et petite fille ont fait le long voyage de pre\u0300s de 700km a\u0300 travers le Se\u0301ne\u0301gal pour arriver au port de Dakar. Apre\u0300s quelques rendez-vous avec les be\u0301ne\u0301voles de Mercy Ships, Binta a e\u0301te\u0301 ravie d’apprendre qu’Adama pouvait e\u0302tre ope\u0301re\u0301e.<\/p>\n

Adama et Binta sont monte\u0301s a\u0300 bord de l’Africa Mercy, ou\u0300 Adama a e\u0301te\u0301 ope\u0301re\u0301e de sa fente labiale. Outre sa gue\u0301rison physique, Binta a remarque\u0301 un autre changement chez sa petite-fille.<\/p>\n

Binta a de\u0301clare\u0301 : \u00ab\u00a0Pendant que nous e\u0301tions sur le bateau, la curiosite\u0301 d’Adama s\u2019est e\u0301norme\u0301ment de\u0301veloppe\u0301e. Je pense que les gens a\u0300 bord du navire l’ont aide\u0301e a\u0300 explorer ce co\u0302te\u0301. Les membres de l’e\u0301quipage agissaient souvent comme des enfants eux-me\u0302mes, si bien qu’Adama se sentait a\u0300 l’aise pour e\u0301voluer avec eux.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Alors qu’Adama gue\u0301rissait rapidement, elle a e\u0301galement trouve\u0301 une nouvelle amie a\u0300 bord, une fille appele\u0301e Aminata, qui se re\u0301tablissait e\u0301galement d’une ope\u0301ration de la fente labiale. Les deux filles sont devenues des compagnes de jeu, riant constamment ensemble et avec ceux qui les entouraient.<\/p>\n

Binta a de\u0301clare\u0301 : \u00ab\u00a0Je suis tellement heureuse. Je remercie Dieu et toutes les infirmie\u0300res, et l’e\u0301quipe de jour de Mercy Ships. Ici, sur le navire, Adama aimait jouer avec les autres enfants et avec les infirmie\u0300res.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Lorsqu’Adama et Binta sont rentre\u0301s chez elles, tout leur village e\u0301tait e\u0301merveille\u0301 par le changement qui s’e\u0301tait ope\u0301re\u0301 sous leurs yeux. Issa, le grand-pe\u0300re d\u2019Adama, avait les larmes aux yeux quand il a vu que sa petite fille e\u0301tait gue\u0301rie.<\/p>\n

Il a dit : \u00ab\u00a0Il a e\u0301te\u0301 difficile de s’occuper d’elle, mais nous avons toujours voulu le meilleur pour elle, et nous n’aurions jamais abandonne\u0301 Adama. Mais maintenant elle est gue\u0301rie, et cette pe\u0301riode difficile est derrie\u0300re nous. Il est temps de faire la fe\u0302te !\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n
