L’Union africaine (UA) a de\u0301cide\u0301 d\u2019e\u0301tendre le projet de Grande muraille verte pour le Sahara et le Sahel, qui re\u0301unit onze pays du Se\u0301ne\u0301gal a\u0300 Djibouti, a\u0300 l\u2019Afrique australe, relate Bloomberg. L’initiative vise a\u0300 planter des millions d’arbres sur le continent pour lutter contre les effets de la de\u0301sertification.<\/p>\n

20% des objectifs atteints<\/p>\n

Lance\u0301e en 2007 par l\u2019UA, l’initiative pre\u0301voyait initialement de planter des millions d\u2019arbres sur une bande de 15 km de large traversant tout le continent en passant par 11 pays. D\u2019ici 2030, plus de 95 millions d\u2019hectares de terres devaient e\u0302tre restaure\u0301s. En 2013, le concept a e\u0301te\u0301 revu a\u0300 un vaste programme de gestion durable des e\u0301cosyste\u0300mes et d\u2019ame\u0301lioration des conditions de vie des populations rurales touche\u0301es par la de\u0301gradation des terres.<\/p>\n

Selon une e\u0301tude de l\u2019Onu publie\u0301e en 2020, la Grande muraille verte n\u2019avait atteint qu\u2019environ 20% de ses objectifs.<\/p>\n
