Africa-Press – Togo. <\/strong><\/span>The parliament of Togo adopted Tuesday, February 28, 2023 during an extraordinary session, a law prohibiting the development, manufacture, storage, and use of chemical weapons and their destruction<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The text, proposed last year by the government, above all should strengthen the country\u2019s legal arsenal in this area with the integration of criminal sanctions, and sets up a plan to protect populations and the environment against chemical weapons.<\/p>\n

In addition, the National Authority for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (ANIAC) is attached to the Presidency of the Republic, and equipped with new tools intended to improve its actions.<\/p>\n

For the National Representation, this is a significant step forward in the protection of populations: \u201cWith the adoption of this text, the import, export, development, manufacture, storage and he use of chemical weapons, as well as their destruction will henceforth be regulated\u201d, underlined the speaker of Parliament, Yawa Tsegan.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Togo has been a signatory since 1997 to the International Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.<\/p>\n
